Change metadata in MXF OPAtom file

Hello,
I would like to know if it is possible to change the "Tape name" metadata on a MXF OP Atom file.

I've transcoded Prores MOV files to XDCAM, with the option to create Avid Project Folder Structure. But I put the wrong metadata in the Tape Name fields. So I was curious to know if I pick up the MXF OPAtom v1.mxf file and change only the Tape Name metadata. And hopefully I could replace the original _v1.mxf file without Avid making it OFFLINE or Orphan clip. (hope that made sense)
The simple solution would be to reencode, but I can't reencode everything because we are halfway through the project.

The thing is, I do a workflow that sends an AAF from AVID Media Composer after editing to Color Correction in Davinci. Then export from Davinci as individual clips. To relink in avid, I use the TAPE NAME metadata, as it stays the same through the process, Avid relinks and a fully editable sequence using clips with handles.

I will try somethings tomorrow, hope someone already faced this and has a solution.
Thanks!

Hi Andrezagato

To my knowledge you can not do that with FFAstrans.
Your tape name must be unique as it will be translate to reel name in Davinci. The best way to do that with FFAstrans is to use "file_name" for the tape name before transcoding of course. You can have a look at an old post that I have made to explain how to generate proxy with FFAstrans. This workflow work for Davinci too.

Hey there,
it is not extremely big effort to come up with a script thats able to change the tape name but it would underly some limitations.
1) the new tape name needs to be exactly the same length than the old one. It can be shorter but the unused bytes would need to be filled with space
2) i am not sure if avid would really update the changed tapename

So after all, if what Ghtais said works for you it will be a lot better solution

The problem, if I have correctly understood, is that proxy have already been generated without the right tape name.
Perhaps you could generated a new proxy version with correct tape name and try to relink your final sequence with this new proxy using name instead of tape name in the relink windows. Keep exactly the same workflow in FFAStrans (except tape name of course) to be sur to have the same name and same TC.

Let us know :)

Hello emcodem and Ghtais.
Thanks for the input, I read that post and saw how complicated it all is with avid...
I'll try the options you guys suggested, but the limitation that encodem gave about the new tape name is the same lenght as the old one. Because they vary a lot in lenght.

Thansk guys!
