Time code as source

Just found this great bit of software, and I was wondering if it would be possible to "read" the source timecode from the file, and use this to be the Start TC variable?

Many Thanks

Matt

Hi Matt and thank you for using FFAStrans! :-)

Your request is noted and will probably be a part of a later release which will focus on variables. Probably 0.5.0 or 0.6.0. Focus on the next release (0.4.0beta), which should be out within a few weeks, are multiple instances of workflows and enhanced transcoding farm support.

I would very much like to have this feature too.
I'm new here, and love what you've done. Are you still working on it?

Hi ConradF and thank you for your support and thank you for using FFAStrans! :-)

Are you asking whether I'm still working on FAStrans or if I'm working on time-code as variable source? I'm most certainly working on FFAStrans and I hope the next major release will be out due April. However, FFAStrans is a solo project and as I also do other projects, it's not moving as rapidly as one would hope. Unfortunately, time code as variable will probably not be in the next release but I assure you that it's on the to-do list.

I was asking if you were working on time code as a source. Great job on everything. I'm patient, and excited to see what you put in the next release.
Thank you so much! :D

P.S. Do you have somewhere we could donate to your transcoding cause?

Thank you ConradF, that's very kind of you :-)
Currently there is no way of donating and I'm not looking for that at the moment. FFAStrans is a hobby project done mostly in my spare time but maybe in the future it will be more than that. The best donations you can give so far is feedback.

And thanks for your patience :-)

I'm not sure if this helps or not, I'm not much good at developing software, I'm more of a VFX compositor and animator, but I found this: http://www.ffmpeg.org/doxygen/2.0/libav ... de_8h.html

Thanks but it does not help because the issue is not about the possibilities within ffmpeg, but how FFAStrans currently is organised. I have plans on making a lot of media properties available as variables but it takes a bit of coding and time is my biggest "problem". But although the next release will retain start-tc throughout processing and encoding it will still not be available as a variable. I mentioned in my first reply to this request that media properties as variables will probably be available in 0.5 or 0.6, and that is still my aim.

Thanks again though ;-)

Hello. Thank you for new release, it very helpful and simply for my work.
I have a question about source camera timecode, it perfectly works with p2 source, but not work with other files, like mts, avi and other. I checked files in premiere and see original timecode, but after ffatrans start is zero.
my graph: folder-av/media-timecode-windows_media-folder
I need build proxy copy for my journalists.
Is it possible in this build, or later?

Thank you very much for you great work!

Ok, I've never heard of that problem before but I will look into it when I return from abroad mid february.
