Using shortcuts (lnk) in the watch folder

Hello there,
currently trying out your software and after understanding it all works just great.
However I am looking for one special feature, maybe you can help mi with that:

We have a NAS with thousands of video files. They sometimes have different file suffixes – like .mpg, .m2ts etc.
I can for example search for all files with “trailer” in their name.
As a search result I have an explorer window with lets say 5000 files from 1500 subfolders – I highlight them all, right click, and then create shortcuts to these 5000 files in my watch folder.
We have been using a software that starts encoding and always pulls the source file from its location – but always only the 4 files it is encoding simultaneously (quad core cpu) – it does not copy the 5000 files to the encoding machine.
Then puts the finished files in output folder and deletes the shortcut.

Is there a way your software does/will support this feature please?

Thank you for your answer,
regards,
David

Hi David, thank you for using FFAStrans and welcome to the forum! :-)

That's a great idea and I will take a look at the request. It should be trivial.

I'm sorry, it was not that trivial after all but I will try and implement it soon.

Hi Steinar,

Has anything changed concerning submitting lnk-files?

Every time when a lnk-file is picked up or when I submit it manually FFAStrans reports "no video or audio found in media".

Transcoding-machine has the same path-access as it is shown in properties of the lnk-file.

I tried using lnk-files in recent versions of FFAStrans, played around until i found a possibility to automatically delete the lnk-files after transcoding and not the original media it points to.

Not tried it with FFAStrans 0.9.2.1 so far.

Best

Hi Taner, it works but some assumptions are made that make it NOT work under some circumstances. It should be better in the next release. Thanks for notifying! :-)
