Save as P2 folder structure?

Our Grass Valley server is setup to run P2 AVC100 1080 50i as the native codec from the cameras. As such it would be useful to transcode all non P2 media into our house format. We have a bunch of Canon Quicktime and Sony MXFs we want to convert quickly.

FFAStrans does support mxf AVC100 but appears to create the single muxed file?

Is it possible to generate the P2 folder structure upon output and populate it with the appropriate media elements?

Also is there any way to increase transcode speed, can you run multiple instances or will it process alternate workflows at once?

Hi David,

FFAStrans does not currently support creating P2-compatible file structure. Is that the only viable option for your GV workflow?

FFAStrans can not distribute encoding of single files. So the best way to increase encoding speed is to buy more CPU

Yes sadly we can only import P2 DV P2 DV50 P2 AVC100 (or Sony's XAVC more on that later*) as card native. I did notice that the BBC had a project some time ago that would split media from an Avid into a P2 format so they could plug them into their P2 player decks. Sadly it was stuck at DV50 instead of AVC100

*We are supposed to be able to ingest XAVC as well but it is untested at the moment. However that just seems to be formatted as straightforward MXF files with proxies and XMLs? I just don't know of anyway to test it as the files have to present as if they are from a camera card.

On the CPU, yeah i think we'll get more cores

So how do you get different files coming from other sources into you GV if your only option is to read a camera card? Do you import files into an NLE and export a P2 structure? Or do you have other commercial transcoders that can deliver the format and structure you need?
