MP4 Transcode node slows then stops

Hi all,

I've created a workflow for creating Clean & BITC DVD ISO files as well as a Clean & BITC H264 proxies. The DVD ISOs work absolutely perfectly but the H264 nodes slow down to a grind then appear to stop completely. Any thoughts would be great thanks.

This has happen to me also. Think it happens if the CPU load gets to high and ffmpeg gets in trouble.
If i transcode a file to 4 qualities, this can happen to one quality while the rest will finish.

Hi Marius, thanks for the input, I'll try dropping the CPU to 50% and see if I get any better results.

Update - Tried 50% and no joy. It only seems to be a problem with the AVCi.mxf files though, it appears to reach a certain point of the transcode then stop dead. I've tried using ffmpeg on the same file and had no problem so will keep looking.

Update - Have changed the Video format to MPEG4 (from x264) and it's working flawlessly so it must just be an issue with AVCi & x264.

Have been trying out some different options with x264 and found that the failures don't occur when using the baseline profile, I've tested all others and they are all grinding to a halt at some point in the process so will proceed with using the baseline profile.

Another update, tried tweaking the Bitrate (started at 2200) and found it still works up to 2300 but at 2400 the transcode is failing again. Working with - 4.2, Baseline, x264, 2300 bitrate now and all appears to work.

Thanks for testing.
Last week the problem you describe occurred with some of my workflows too.
From one day to another.
Until now it only happens with (some) workflows which use the libx264-codec.
I've tried to transcode some of the failed files with ffmpeg and command console.
Used the ffmpeg-exe in the ffastrans-folder.
Same result.

I haven't tried to change to baseline so far because my libx264-workflows have bitrates at 2Mbit, 5Mbit, 10Mbit.
Provided that I have to use just bitrates up to 2300.

Looks like a strange ffmpeg-issue.
