FPS Conversion
FPS Conversion
Hello Steipal,
I am trying to transcode NTSC XDCAM-HD 422 59.94fps Interlace .mov source to PAL XDCAM-HD 422 25fps Interlace .mov target. I am using FPS conversion filter and Encoder XDCAM-HD 422 with Format setting 1080i50 and wrapper .mov. After transcoding I am getting output in 25fps progressive format. If I change the wrapper from mov to mxf I am getting interlace output. I have also tried with custom FFMPEG command, but result is same.
Can you please suggest.
Thanks
Vijay

Re: FPS Conversion
Ok, I'll look into it. In the mean time, can you please try without the fps filter? The XD-CAMHD encoder has built in fps conversion. See if that makes any difference.

Re: FPS Conversion
I have tried without FPS filter, it's showing progressive.
Re: FPS Conversion
Ok, so where is it showing progressive? At what system are you trying to use the mov file?

Re: FPS Conversion
Media Info, FCP, Adobe CC
Re: FPS Conversion
In MediaInfo, Adobe Premiere CC 2015 and Final Cut Pro X i get correct "Upper field" but in Final Cut Pro 7 i get "None" (Progressive). What versions of CC and FCP are you using?
Can you export your workflow and send it to me? post@ffastrans.com

Re: FPS Conversion
Hi Steipal,
I have observed that PC Media Info is showing progressive, FCP 7 is showing Progressive and Telestream Switch player is also showing progressive. Adobe CC and MAC media info is showing interlaced. Is that FFMPEG bug or FCP 7 and Windows Media Info bug? I have other same format files which are transcoded using Carbon Coder, which is showing properly (Interlaced) in all the systems.
Thanks
Vijay

Re: FPS Conversion
Allthough I try to make the encoders as compatible as possible, FFAStrans is usually limited to what FFmpeg has to offer. However, there might be some flags that I'm missing when it comes to f.ex. interlacing. I'm learning new things about ffmpeg all the time. Do you have any particular problem with the files being generated by FFAStrans or is it just an interpretation concern?

Re: FPS Conversion
Client is not accepting files which are transcoded through FFMPEG (FFASTRANS), They are working on FCP7 and checking file in Windows Media info. I have explained them about the issue but still they are not happy.
Re: FPS Conversion
It would be very helpful to know if the footage plays correctly and that it's just showing "None" in the field property, or if the footage play back progressive.
I have tried to create 29.97 and 25 fps interlaced .mov files in XDCAMHD using the exact same settings: FCP7 show the 29.97 with upper field, and the 25 with none (progressive). But both play back fine with correct interlacing. And because FCP-X show the same 25 FPS file correctly with upper, then it's seem to be a matter of field interpretation by FCP-7. I don't know if there is anything to do about it actually when it comes to FCP-7. Maybe remuxing using FFMBC instead of FFMPEG would do the trick and I will try that.
