Hi,
I am trying to put together a way to convert files that are written into a watch folder to DNxHD 2560x1440 at 30fps.
The current workflow reads from a folder, converts and outputs to another folder.
I have two problems:
- The workflow does not trigger when new files are added to the folder. The properties of the workflow are set to sleep for 30 seconds and check for growing files. Only when I manually submit files to the folder, does FFAStrans do anything. Should it start automatically like a normal watch folder?
- The Avid DNxHD node does not support custom resolutions and does not support 30fps.
Is there a way to use the custom node to enable this?
Thank you,
Markus
How to auto-convert to DNxHD at 30fps
Re: How to auto-convert to DNxHD at 30fps
Hi Markus,
FFAStrans does currently not support other DNxHD variants than the ones listed in the node. I don't think ffmpeg supports higher resolution DNxHD, which would actually be DNxHR. FFAStrans use ffmpeg to create those files. However, if you find a way, let me know
When "Check for growing files" is enabled, FFAStrans will check if the file is larger than last time in your 30 seconds cycle. So, in effect, FFAStrans will use from minimum 30-60+ second to pick up new files. Have you waited long enough?

Re: How to auto-convert to DNxHD at 30fps
Dear steipal,
thanks for the quick response.
I have waited for more than 30 seconds, but I am sure it's an issue that can be solved.
Would there be any alternative to uncompressed video which you could recommend to encode the 2560x1440 at 30fps footage?
Thanks,
Markus

Re: How to auto-convert to DNxHD at 30fps
It all depends on usage. Are you gonna use the files in an NLE or playout-system?
Has the monitoring problem been resolved?

Re: How to auto-convert to DNxHD at 30fps
Hi Markus,
I would try ProRes which can be encoded using ffmpeg. You could also try an intraframe based x264 but it probably wont be smooth operation. And off course you can go 100% lossless using the "Uncompressed"-encoder node in FFAStrans but your files will be HUGE!
Other than that there are also other intermediates like CineForm but you can't make those with ffmpeg.

Re: How to auto-convert to DNxHD at 30fps
Dear steinar,
thanks - i've tried to encode ProPres with ffmpeg on Windows but have thus far failed.
Also in finding a tutorial that will get me to see what the mistake I am making is. Haven't even got it working with gui tools such as via dxtory.
Best,
Markus
