transcoding queue

Post by taner »

Hi Steipal,

At first: you've made a great job with ffastrans! Very powerful! Easy to use! Very very great features! Every time when I start ffastrans I get a smile on my face. We will leave Telestram Episode behind us and use ffastrans in the future.

As a feature-request it would be great if there could be a way that files in a queue automatically switch to a machine which has free resources.

Let me describe my current situation with an example.

We have 5 transcoding-machines. When all transcoding-machines are working and a new file is discovered for transcoding status-monitor tells me that the new file "waits for resource.." on for example machine-1.
Thats fine.
But when machines 2-4 finished their jobs and has nothing to do and machine-1 is still working the new file is still in the queue of machine-1 and does not automatically switch to another machine which has free resources.

Best

Hi Taner, thank you for using FFAStrans and welcome to the forum!

Your enthusiasm for my project makes me very happy :-)

I'm afraid your request is a bit tricky, and I would say almost impossible with the current code base. However, I will take a look at how FFAStrans can be smarter when deciding what to pick up when. But once a node has taken a job, it must be finished on the current computer that holds the node. Once the node is finished it may be picked up by another computer for further processing.
