HD to SD Downconvert

I have set up a workflow converting HD material to SD material using an A/V Media decoder and a resize node.

The resultant file is stretched - no letterbox applied to down convert.

Is there a way to apply the normal letter boxing in the down converted file?

Hi Neels,

Make sure you resize to 720x432 (PAL) or 720x360 (NTSC). Then insert a "Pad"-filter after the resize and apply 72 pixels (PAL) or 60 pixels (NTSC) both at top (Up) and bottom (Down) in the filter. This should give you proper letterboxing when doing HD->SD.

I played around a bit with the numbers you provided and got to the correct ratio's for my conversion, but all worked perfectly thanks very much.
