Monitor folders not working?

Post by CaseyMazur »

This is my first time trying FFAStrans, and cannot get monitor folders to work. Every time I put a file in the folder I designate, nothing happens. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Hi caseymazur,

You need to mark 'check for growing files' and define the input-filetypes (accept files), for example *.mov

If you want to transcode all kind of av-files which ffmpeg can process just use *.*

In addition you should define poll-intervall. Right-click your input-folder and choose the amount of seconds.

@taner Okay, how do I do that? This is probably basic stuff, but I can't seem to find any documentation. Sorry!

Hi CaseyMazur, thank you for using FFAStrans and welcome to the forum! :-)

You do not need to check the "growing files"-options. Can you please try and submit a file manually to the workflow? Also, make sure your AV don't kill any of the important FFAStrans files in the Processors folder: exe_manager.exe, def_runner.exe and processors.exe.

Oh, and just to check (and maybe a stupid question); you HAVE opened the status monitor (under Options), right?

Yes, I have opened the monitor to see if anything happens when I drop in a file. I just reset the entire program, but to no avail, it still doesn't work. When I manually submit a file, it works fine. I will create an exclusion in my AV for this folder to see if that helps.

Hi there

I stumbled across this very promising tool when i was looking for a watch folder tool that used FFMPEG.

I think i found it :)

But i am not able to get the Folder Monitor to work.. I have tried several times with all kinds of settings, uninstalled a Virus Program, made sure Windows Defender ignores the FFA folders, ran it as Admin etc etc.. Submitted files directly.. no luck..

I am on Windows 10 all updates installed, i run the program from Root on a Data Drive. I am unable to find anywhere where i can set the Folder poling.

As a sidenote, is there a simple way to run the Quicktime Reference conversion without FFA?

Hi Da_K, thank you for using FFAStrans and welcome to the forum!

Can you please make sure the "exe_manager.exe" and "def_runner.exe" files are running when starting your workflow? For manually submitted files the "exe_manager.exe" must be running. They can not be startet manually by the user, only by the FFAStrans system.

FFAStrans use the qtsource plugin for AviSynth when dealing with QT reference files. So, you can use that yourself without FFAStrans. Now will have to be the judge whether it's simple or not. It probably depends on your expertise on AviSynth/ffmpeg.

I checked and they are all running, and i installed FFA on another computer, same problem. I feel i am missing something completely simple.

I tried submitting a file directly to the Encoder, it works but doesn't write anything, so i guess its a permission problem..

Another thing, when i right click on the Workflow and and try to start it, it says "save workflow before starting it", but how do i save a workflow?
When i Export a Workflow, it doesn't always save it, at least when i re-import it it doesn't restore the workflow.. except sometimes it does?

Interesting, when i drop the files directly on the encoder i can see that the folder .ffastrans_work_root gets populated and the encoding happens, the files gets created, but they never get copied to the destination folder, after the encoding the files gets deleted.

You save the workflow by right-clicking in the editor area. You can also press CTRL+S....which is not a very unusual approach ;-)
While we're at it, you have you connected the nodes?

Basic FFAStrans usage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMISBx6iSeQ&t=149s

I just want to make sure you know the basics of creating a workflow before further investigation.
